The Government of West Bengal has recently revised the minimum wages for employees working in shops and establishments.
The revised rates were notified on 22 June 2026 and are applicable from 1 July 2026 to 31 December 2026.
The wages vary based on the employee’s skill level and the zone where the establishment is located.
Zones in West Bengal
- Zone A: Areas covered under Municipal Corporations, Municipalities, Notified Areas and Development Authorities. It also includes Thermal Power Plant areas and their township areas.
- Zone B: All other areas of West Bengal.
Skill Categories
- Unskilled: Peon, cleaner, sweeper, security guard, bearer and messenger.
- Semi-Skilled: Duftry and assistant accountant.
- Skilled: Clerk, typist, office assistant, office maintenance and inventory management staff, data entry operator and accountant.
- Highly Skilled: Head assistant, senior accountant, computer operator, research and development staff or executive, market research staff or executive, godown-in-charge, office supervisor, sales representative and sales promotion employees.
