Introduction to TRACES

TRACES, which stands for TDS Reconciliation Analysis and Correction Enabling System, is a system set up by the income-tax department’s TDS Centralised Processing Cell. You can visit the TRACES website at

TRACES includes different parts:

  • Tax Information Network
  • Automated TDS Challan Matching
  • TDS Defaults Processing
  • IVR/Call Centre
  • Web Portal

The website uses new technology to help people like deductors, collectors, and taxpayers communicate easily with the income-tax department.

To use TRACES, Deductors/Collectors, PAOs, and taxpayers must sign up and create their accounts. This way, they can access the tools that are meant for them. Deductors/Collectors can check on their challan status and verify the PAN details of Payers.

TRACES also lets taxpayers see their yearly tax credit from TDS/TCS deductions (Form 26AS). They can also determine if a deductor filed statements for a specific time and if their PAN is part of that statement. Plus, Taxpayers can download Form 16B to use as buyers.
