In this post, we’ll go over how to register for PF and ESI online via the Shram Suvidha Portal.
We will cover the following topics:
The Unified Shram Suvidha Portal was designed to make it easier to comply with labour laws. It has been designed to serve as a single point of contact for employers, employees, and enforcement agencies, increasing openness in their daily interactions. The portal also allows you to file EPF and ESI returns.
All Establishments with 20 or more employees must register for PF and ESI. So, let us take a look at the procedure of registration.
If your business falls under any of the categories below, then registration is required.
In simple words, if your business has employees and is covered by Indian labour rules, you must complete the registration.

Here’s why businesses should register on this portal:
For businesses, this portal makes employer compliance and employee registration much easier and more organised.
If EPFO or ESIC registration is delayed, the department can impose a penalty of up to ₹50,000 under labour laws.
Interest is also charged on pending dues, usually 1 to 2 percent per month. In some cases, the penalty can go up to three times the total amount payable.
Without proper registration, you may not get access to labour department services, and you will not be able to file compulsory returns.
Providing incorrect details during registration is a serious offence.
It can lead to criminal action, including up to six months’ imprisonment.
A fine of up to ₹1,00,000 can also be imposed for false declarations.
Any pending dues can be recovered as government arrears, along with an extra penalty equal to the amount due.
Without a valid LIN, EPFO and ESIC returns cannot be filed.
You will not be able to apply for CLRA licences or other labour-related approvals.
During labour inspections or audits, non-compliance can create significant issues and delays.
Completing registration on the Shram Suvidha Portal is an essential step for any business to stay compliant with labour laws and avoid future legal issues. Whether you are a startup or a well-established company, following employer compliance rules helps you maintain proper employee records and meet all statutory requirements.
By completing the employee registration process correctly, businesses can obtain a Labour Identification Number (LIN). This number acts as a unique ID and helps bring clarity and transparency in all labour-related matters. Proper labor law registration also reduces the risk of fines, notices, and penalties from authorities.
Today, with online business registration systems in place, registering on the Shram Suvidha Portal has become easier and more convenient. However, understanding legal requirements and ensuring complete compliance can still be confusing. If you need help with Shram Suvidha Portal registration, employee registration, or meeting employer compliance needs, professional support can save time and make the process smooth and hassle-free.
