A guide to DSC registration
In this post, we’ll look at how to Register a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) feature with the e-filing portal. Let’s take a closer look at each section:
Overview
All registered users of the e-filing site have access to the Register Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) feature. Registered users can use this service to do the following:
- Register DSC
- When your registered DSC expires, you must re-register.
- Re-register if your registered DSC has not expired.
- Register the Principal Contact’s DSC
Note :
All users who want to utilise DSC service must re-register their DSC on the new portal using the ‘Register DSC’ feature. Due to security and technical concerns, DSCs registered on the old e-filing system will not be moved to the new platform.
Prerequisites for using this service
- User with a valid user ID and password for the e-Filing portal.
- The emsigner utility is downloaded and installed (the utility can also be downloaded and installed while registering the DSC).
- Plug in the USB token that you purchased from the Certifying Authority Provider.
- DSC USB token certificates should be Class 2 or Class 3.
- Registering a DSC requires that it is active and has not expired
- Renewal of a DSC is not acceptable
Step-by-Step process
Step 1: Log in to the e-Filing portal using your user ID and password.
Step 2: Go to the My Profile page from the Dashboard.
Step 3: Click Register DSC on the left side of the screen.
Step 4: Enter the email ID linked with the DSC token. Select I have downloaded and installed emsigner utility and click Continue.
Note: If you have to download the emsigner utility, you can click on the hyperlink for the same under Need Help.
Step 5: Select the Provider and Certificate. Enter Provider Password. Click Sign.
Upon successful validation, a success message will appear with an option to access the Dashboard.

If your DSC has expired, you must re-register | Following Step 3, the message Your Registered DSC is no longer valid. If a valid DSC is displayed, please re-register. In this case, the method of registering a DSC is the same as previously explained. |
The registered DSC should be re-registered if it has not expired | After Step 3, the message You have already registered DSC. You can view details of your registered DSC, or update by re-registering is displayed. Click View to view the details and Update to update the same (by following Steps 4 and 5). |
Register the DSC of the principal contact | After Step 3, enter the email address of the Principal Contact in e-Filing and follow the same procedures to register DSC. |
