The increase in minimum wages for 2026 varies from state to state and across different industries. In many cases, the hike is mainly due to revisions in the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA), while some states may announce higher increases based on their economic conditions and government notifications.
Under the Code on Wages, the basic salary should generally be at least 50% of the total CTC (Cost to company). If the allowances are more than 50%, the excess amount may be added to the basic salary for calculating PF and gratuity.
There is no single minimum salary for the whole country. It depends on the state, the type of work, the skill level of the employee, and the industry. The applicable salary is decided by the minimum wage notification issued by the concerned state government.
The minimum wage for April 2026 is different in each state. The rates depend on the latest notification issued by the state government and usually include the basic wage along with the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA).
